Ingredients and Formulation:
Cooking oil spray is primarily made from liquid cooking oils such as canola oil, olive oil, sunflower oil, or soybean oil. These oils are chosen for their neutral flavor, high smoke point, and health benefits.
To create the sprayable formulation, the cooking oil is combined with an emulsifier. Common emulsifiers include lecithin (derived from soybeans or sunflower seeds) or mono- and diglycerides (derived from plant oils).
Emulsifiers help stabilize the mixture and ensure that the oil blends effectively with the propellant gas.
Emulsification Process:
The cooking oil and emulsifier are mixed together thoroughly to form a homogeneous blend. This process may involve heating the oil slightly to facilitate mixing and ensure the emulsifier is fully incorporated.
The emulsification process is crucial to ensure that the oil and emulsifier form a stable suspension that can be evenly dispersed when sprayed.
Propellant Addition:
Once the oil and emulsifier are blended, a propellant gas is added to create the aerosol spray. Common propellants used in cooking oil sprays include propane, butane, or a mixture of these gases.
The propellant is added under pressure to the mixture, which creates a fine mist when the spray nozzle is pressed. The pressure forces the oil mixture through a valve and out of the spray nozzle, atomizing it into tiny droplets.
Packaging:
The prepared cooking oil spray is filled into aerosol cans under controlled conditions to ensure quality and consistency.
Aerosol cans are typically made of aluminum or steel and are equipped with a spray nozzle and valve assembly. The valve controls the release of the oil spray when the nozzle is depressed.
Quality Control and Safety:
Throughout the manufacturing process, strict quality control measures are implemented to ensure the spray formulation meets safety and regulatory standards.
This includes testing for uniform spray dispersion, stability of the emulsion, can integrity, and compliance with food safety regulations.
